The Great American Music Hall is able to offer our clients a variety of theme ideas and suggestions for their events. Whether it's a birthday party or a product launch, each of these genres can be tailored to your specific needs and budget. We can also provide room decor, party favors and table dressings to accent each design, thereby creating an unforgettable atmosphere for you and your guests.

Please consider some of the ideas below and call our in-house Events Coordinator, Kim Murphy, at (415) 202-9812 x833 for more details.

Barbary Coast Gold Rush Theme Featuring a selection of food from many of San Francisco's ethnically diverse neighborhoods: Asian, Mexican, Italian. We can arrange for greeters or impersonators dressed in period clothing, performances by entertainers specializing in music of the era, and possible accompaniment by a chorus of can-can dancers. Hosts may even request that guests arrive in costume, and wardrobe assistance and costume shop referrals can be arranged.

Rock & Roll / '60s Theme Our chef, Eric Adema, has created a fun-loving and very affordable '60s menu featuring items such as Peaceful Pizzas, Groovy Green Salad and Chicken Pot Pies. With a gerber daisy on every table, tie-dyed tablecloths and lava lamps on all of the buffets, your guests will think they've entered a time warp. For added effect, we can project a colorful oil and water light show on screens over the stage (original '60s technology) and, of course, hire an original band from the '60s such as Jefferson Starship or Big Brother and the Holding Company.

French Bistro / 1920s Cabaret Theme The Great American Music Hall was originally designed by a French architect in 1907 and, during the late '50s, the building actually housed a French restaurant called "Charles." It is naturally appropriate that French food be served here once again. Using as many small cocktail rounds as necessary, burgundy linens and numerous votive candles (or our '20s style frosted glass candle lamps) on every table, we can easily replicate the look and feel of a '20s cabaret.

Phantom of the Opera As any musician who has graced the stage of the Music Hall will attest, the acoustics in this building are phenomenal. Hire an opera singer, host a murder mystery dinner or have a guest appearance by the Phantom himself. It's sure to leave a lasting impression on your guests.

Mardi Gras Have a street parade walk though your party, hire a colorful party band (preferably with a large horn section) and disperse an assortment of colored Mardi Gras beads and trinkets. Let us help you create a New Orleans atmosphere with food, spirits and song.

Elegant Sit-Down Dinner Club A subtle wash of color over the room, coupled with the dramatic up-lighting of our six marble columns, and the Music Hall becomes a feast for the senses. Our gilded balconies and frescoed ceilings are the ultimate decor for an elegant sit-down dinner. Lovely dinners have been hosted for as few as 40 guests (without sacrificing that intimate quality) and as many as 250 (though we recommend that if your group is interested in dancing, the guest count not exceed 150).

Monte Carlo Night The ornate interior of the Great American Music Hall lends itself perfectly for a Monte Carlo night. A variety of accommodations can be made for black jack, craps and roulette tables, while still allowing for comfortable dinner seating (though some clients have turned both floors of the Music Hall into a giant casino). Let a cocktail trio or small jazz band entertain your guests while they stroll through the jackpots or dance amongst the gaming tables.

Swing Night San Francisco has a plethora of modestly priced swing bands, almost all of which offer musicians dressed in swing attire. Park some old vintage cars out front, put out the red carpet and offer a swing dance demonstration / lesson (by the way... how about a free shoe shine?). Can't decide between Left and Right Coast Swing? We can even arrange for a swing DJ who can play both!
