Violet
Indiana marks the first major project from guitar icon Robin
Guthrie since the demise of alternative music legends the Cocteau
Twins. His classic ethereal, vibrato guitar tones wrap around the
luscious voice of Siobhan de Maré,
who was previously the chanteuse of trip hop sensations Mono.
That distinctive guitar sound.
Fans of either won't be disappointed with the haunting landscapes explored
by Violet Indiana, and those not previously in the know will find rich rewards
within the lovingly fashioned songs and desolate textures offered here.
Indeed Robin Guthrie employs newfound simplicity to startling effect throughout
these songs. Couple that with stark, emotional tones and the lyrics of Siobhan
de Maré and you may be some way towards understanding the lure of
Violet Indiana. Songs like "Powder River"
and "Purr La Perla" (the CD-ROM
video track featured on Roulette) come
from that place in the heart so familiar to Patsy
Cline - where love can be lost, found or destroyed yet never forgiven
or forgotten. |
