Sean Kelly readily
admits that The Samples have not
been subjected to the same amount of limelight as some of their peers.
"Grassroots approaches by other bands have been rewarded,"
says The Samples' frontman, guitarist, lead vocalist and main songwriter,
"and we've been skipped over in some sense."
For The Samples, this is anything but a gripe. The band is thrilled
with its trailblazing path among active musicians. Through fighting
to maintain artistic integrity, The Samples have created a unique
sound, and continue to add to their legions of dedicated fans, maintaining
a successful career on their own terms in an field with phenominal
turnover. That the band expresses ideas like these should not be a
surprise.
"Music made for the reactive buyer, anything that sacrifices
the proactive aspect of the creative process, isn't worth doing,"
says Kelly. "It speaks of the sway held by the trend of the moment,
and the demand in the industry for reactive music. But just because
McDonalds or Burger King can sell a million burgers, that has nothing
to do with quailty." |
