Scandinavian punk
unit Millencolin formed in Örebro,
Sweden in the late '80s. Inspired by the Southern California hardcore sound
of bands like Operation Ivy, the Descendants
and NOFX, vocalist/bassist
Nikola and guitarists Erik and
Mathias formed the first incarnation of
Millencolin (a variation on the skateboarding maneuver dubbed Melancholy)
as a Swedish-language group, but later began writing and singing in English;
the addition of drummer Larzon in 1993 cemented their line-up, and they
soon made their recording debut on the local label Burning
Heart.
After their first LP "Life on a Plate"
appeared in 1995, Millencolin was signed by the American indie label Epitaph,
which reissued the album for U.S. distribution; their sophomore effort
"For Monkeys" followed in 1997, and a year later they returned
with "Same Old Tunes." Millencolin's
fourth LP, "Pennybridge Pioneers,"
appeared in early 2000. "No Cigar"
was released in spring 2001. Jason
