Amy X Neuburg & The Cello ChiXtet celebrate the CD release of "The Secret Language of Subways" -- an 'avant-cabaret' song cycle for voice and 3 cellos, with live electronic percussion, looping and processing.

"A wonderful performer/composer... ('The Secret LanguageŠ') songs channel the rhythms of urban life through the seriocomic sensibility of a born entertainer." -- Joshua Kosman, SF Chronicle

"Amazing, triumphant, ambitious and soaring... There really is something evocative about the NYC subway that triggers the creative spirit. Mix in the Iraq war and 9/11, and you've got fertile ground for lots of fragments and images that coalesce into the songs that form the 'Subways' cycle." -- Craig Matsumoto, KZSU

More cellos! Opening the show will be the incomparable Zoë Keating performing her one-woman orchestra of solo works for looped cello.

Singer, songwriter and electronic instrument performer Amy X Neuburg has developed a unique career bridging the boundaries between classical, experimental and popular musics. Her wildly entertaining 'avant-cabaret' songs combine her interests in poetry and theater, expressive use of music technology, and exploration of multiple genres using the many colors of her four-octave vocal range. She has been called "a one-woman musical hurricane" (Otago Times, New Zealand), "the most brilliant looping artist of our time" (Santa Cruz Metro), and "a phenomenal voice, a master with looping/processing electronics" (New York Press). The glamorous and virtuosic Cello ChiXtet -- Elaine Kreston, Jess Ivry, and Beth Vandervennet -- bring to Amy's songs an enormous variety of experience in classical, rock, jazz, experimental and world musics.

Zoë Keating is a one-woman orchestra. She uses a cello and a foot-controlled laptop to create beautiful and otherworldly music.
Born in Canada and classically trained from the age of eight, Zoë dabbled in computer software while moonlighting as a cellist in rock bands. Inevitably, she combined the two and developed her now signature style while improvising for late night crowds at warehouse parties. Her self-produced album "One Cello x 16: Natoma", has four times been #1 on the iTunes classical and electronica charts.

From 2002 to 2006 Zoë was a member of the cello-rock trio Rasputina and she is featured on the albums of countless artists, including DJ Shadow and Amanda Palmer. Zoë has composed and recorded scores for the films "The Devil's Chair", "Ghost Bird", "Diary of A Sex Addict", "Frozen Angels", performed on Mark Isham's score for "The Secret Life of Bees", appeared on Jay Leno with Paolo Nutini and been on five tours with the Grammy-nominated songstress Imogen Heap. "
